My mother called me last night to tell me about a little girl Riley I “just had to see” on YouTube because she was going on and on just “like me” about not liking pink. Given that my mother thinks the laptop is “stupid” because she doesn’t know how to “work that thing” I was too surprised she knew of a YouTube video before I did to notice the verbal jab. Turns out my mother saw it on one of the daytime shows because the video had garnered so much attention is was the latest YouTube sensation. I promised to watch it, but I forgot – my mother apparently knew I would forget because this morning an email from her was waiting for me with the video embedded. Bravo Ma!
My mother was right. I fell in love with Riley instantly – as has most of America. Riley is my new hero and I would love to introduce her all kinds of fabulous women who know not all girls like pink or Barbie.
Quick update: I read one comment on YouTube from eyyeshadow which read,
What the hell does the CEO/presidential candidates have to do with the color of kids’ toys? Shit calm down the girl’s only repeating what her parents taught her, she’s not some next level genius.
To eyyeshadow – It may have little to do with the candidates, though they could learn something from her. She may not be “some next level genius” but she very well be, we don’t know yet. BUT even if she is only repeating what her parents taught her she is still worth listening to and more parents should teach their children the values she is learning.
